Software for acupuncture clinics

Journify gives acupuncturists a diary with online booking, reminders by email and text, treatment notes, invoices and a client portal, and lets you sell a course of six as one package. Point charts and a needle count log aren't built yet.

Acupuncture isn't statutorily regulated. The British Acupuncture Council keeps a register accredited by the Professional Standards Authority, and you'll usually need to register yourself and your premises with your local council for skin piercing.

The specialist acupuncture pack (point charts, tongue and pulse diagrams and a needle count log) comes later, once enough practitioners ask for it, and until then you can use the General pack for your diary, notes, invoices, reminders, client portal and online booking.

What it does for acupuncturists

Courses of six, without the chasing

Most of your clients pay for themselves, and plenty book a course rather than one session. Sell the course as a package and Journify counts sessions used and left from the diary. Clients book their next one online and get a reminder before each appointment.

  • Packages count sessions from the diary
  • Online booking for follow-ups
  • Reminders by email and text

Needle counts: not built yet

The acupuncture pack will check needles in against needles out before a note can be finalised, with a point picker using WHO names like LI4 and ST36. None of that exists yet. For now you can build your own treatment note with fields for points, needles in and needles out, but Journify won't stop you finalising a note if the numbers don't match.

  • Build your own treatment note template
  • No point or meridian charts yet
  • No enforced needle reconciliation yet

Council registration and VAT

Councils register both you and your premises for skin piercing, and Cornwall Council, for one, says a premises registration can't be transferred if you move. On VAT, HMRC says acupuncturists can't currently exempt their services, so Journify starts you as not VAT-registered. In a mixed clinic, VAT is set per practitioner, so a physiotherapist using acupuncture within physiotherapy can still be exempt.

  • BAcC and indemnity renewal reminders
  • Not VAT-registered by default
  • VAT set per practitioner in mixed clinics

Who pays, and how it's billed

Clients mostly pay for themselves, with some cash plans and occasional insurance when a physiotherapist or doctor gives the treatment. Acupuncture is standard-rated if you're VAT-registered, unless a statutory registrant delivers it within their own profession, such as a physiotherapist.

Questions from acupuncturists

Is it worth signing up before the acupuncture pack exists?

If you mostly need a diary, booking, reminders, notes and invoices, yes. If you want point charts and an enforced needle count from day one, they aren't there yet, and we'd rather you knew now than after you've moved your clients across.

Does it track my council skin piercing registration?

Not specifically yet. The acupuncture pack will hold the certificate against you and each location. Until then you can add your BAcC membership and insurance to your profile and get renewal reminders.

Will I have to start again when the acupuncture pack arrives?

No. The pack installs into your existing practice from Settings and adds its templates and modules. It doesn't touch the clients, notes or templates you've already got.

What does it cost?

Prices are still being finalised, so they're TBC for now. Solo is for one practitioner, and Practice and Clinic are priced per practitioner if you share a clinic. Admin staff are free, and early access opens in 2027.
