Less admin for independent SLTs

Journify keeps the case history, your transcriptions, session data, goals and EHC needs assessment advice in one record for each child. It bills parents, schools and local authorities from the same place, so the funding spreadsheet can finally go.

Regulated by the HCPC (protected titles: speech and language therapist and speech therapist). Professional bodies: RCSLT and ASLTIP.

What it does for speech and language therapists

EHCNA advice with a clock on it

Statutory advice is due six weeks after the local authority asks, and that request always lands in a busy week. Log it in Journify and a deadline clock appears on your dashboard, amber at 10 working days left and red at 5. The advice template is laid out as Sections B, E and F, so the provision you write is specific and quantified, which is what LAs and tribunals look for.

  • The clock defaults to six weeks and you can change it per local authority
  • Section F lines say what, by whom, how often and for how long
  • A provision tracker shows delivered against specified hours each term

One child, three people paying

Parents pay for the assessment, the school buys a block of hours and the LA funds therapy under a purchase order with an hours cap. That's a normal Tuesday in paediatric SLT. Each appointment in Journify is funded by one contract, chosen at booking, and an invoice to a funder that needs a PO won't go out until the PO number is in.

  • School time banks that count down as you deliver, matching the service level agreement RCSLT suggests for school work
  • Autumn, Spring and Summer term presets, with your own local dates
  • Separated parents can each get appointment emails, with the invoice going to whoever pays

Speech sound analysis that adds up

Type the target word and the child's production into the transcription grid and Journify suggests the error pattern, fills in the inventory by word position and works out PCC. You can overrule any suggestion. The IPA palette is in every text field too: notes, goals, reports and letters, with an example word on hover and your favourite symbols pinned first.

  • Phonological process checklist with a count for each process
  • A tap counter for percentage syllables stuttered in the fluency template
  • Trial data in every session note, with cue levels from independent to model

  • Built in: Goal Attainment Scaling, Goals Based Outcomes, FOIS and IDDSI levels
  • EAT-10, VHI-10 and the Intelligibility in Context Scale, switched on once we hold the rights holders' permission
  • PCC and percentage syllables stuttered, worked out from your own transcription and counts

Who pays, and how it's billed

Parents, schools (termly contracts and time banks) and local authorities paying against a purchase order cover most paediatric work, while adult work adds case managers and the occasional insurer. Treatment by an HCPC-registered SLT is VAT exempt, but SEND tribunal and medico-legal reports are standard-rated.

Questions from speech and language therapists

Can I use my own CELF-5 and other test forms?

Yes, and you'll need to. Standardised tests are licensed, so Journify never copies their questions. You test from your own licensed copy and enter the scores. Journify keeps them in score tables, charts them over time and pulls them into your reports.

Is Solo enough if I work with a lot of schools?

Maybe not. Solo includes up to 3 funder contracts and 10 active funded packages. If you have several schools and LAs on the go, Practice takes those limits away. Prices for both are TBC.

Does it work for adult and dysphagia work?

Yes. Pick the adult variant and you get the adult communication, clinical swallow and voice templates, IDDSI picklists and FOIS, with case manager and care home funders instead of schools. Links for a deputy, attorney or litigation friend are switched on too.

What about the AI scribe and client data?

It's an optional add-on (price TBC) and you opt in yourself. It runs in the UK and only ever writes a draft into your note template, which you check, correct and sign before anything is saved. It only goes live once it's passed our clinical safety tests.
