Built for private psychologists

Journify runs the diary, notes, measures and insurer billing for a private psychology practice. Pick psychology at sign-up and you start with formulation layouts, restricted process notes, measures sent through the client portal before each session and a session count against every authorisation.

Practitioner psychologists are regulated by the HCPC, which protects titles such as clinical psychologist and counselling psychologist. The BPS is the main professional body.

What it does for psychologists

Insurer authorisations, counted for you

Insurers authorise a set number of sessions, want progress reports along the way, and are quick to bounce an invoice that's wrong. Journify keeps the authorisation code, sessions authorised and dates on the client's funder record and counts attended sessions against it. Two sessions before the limit, it reminds you to plan the ending or ask for more.

  • 'Session 5 of 8' on the appointment and the client header
  • Insurer progress reports pull in sessions used and measures at the start and now
  • EAP work invoiced per session or monthly

Measures in before the session starts

Sessional measures go out through the client portal 24 hours before each appointment. When you open the note, the scores are already at the top as a trend line with clinical cut-offs. What the numbers mean is still your call.

  • PHQ-9, GAD-7, PCL-5 and WSAS built in
  • Licensed tools like HADS and BDI-II as score entry, using your own licence
  • Charts show cut-offs and reliable change

Process notes stay with you

Process notes are a separate, restricted class that only you and your named supervisor can see. They never appear in the portal, routine exports or print packs. We won't pretend they're exempt from a subject access request, though: if a client asks for their records, Journify brings process notes up for you to review and, where appropriate, redact.

  • Shown with a lock icon in the record
  • Never in the client portal
  • Left out of AI drafting by default

Measures and assessments

  • PHQ-9, GAD-7, PHQ-15, PCL-5, WSAS, GBO and AUDIT: built in, with questions and scoring
  • DASS-21, RCADS, SCARED, EPDS, CORE-10 and CORE-OM: built in once the rights holders' permission is in place
  • HADS, BDI-II, BAI, ReQoL, SDQ, WEMWBS, ORS and SRS: score entry only, using your own licence
  • WAIS-IV and WISC-V: score entry only, with raw, scaled and percentile scores in the test battery log

Who pays, and how it's billed

Clients pay for themselves, through private medical insurance with authorised sessions, or through an EAP, and some work comes from solicitors and family courts. Health care from an HCPC practitioner psychologist is VAT exempt, while expert and court reports are standard-rated, so Journify sets those report services to standard by default.

Questions from psychologists

Will my process notes be hidden from a subject access request?

No, and we'd be wary of any system that says so. UK GDPR has no special category for psychotherapy notes, so identifiable process notes are personal data. Journify keeps them out of routine use, and when a request comes in it lists them for you to review and redact where appropriate.

Can I record WAIS-IV, WISC-V or BDI-II results?

Yes, as score entry. These are licensed tests, so Journify doesn't hold their questions. You confirm you hold a valid licence the first time you use one, then enter the scores and upload the completed form as a PDF.

How does it handle court and medico-legal reports?

There's an expert report template with CPR Part 35 and family court versions, and the service defaults to standard-rated VAT, because HMRC treats medico-legal work that way. If you bill by the hour, switch on the medico-legal case record and time-and-activity billing.

Can I run video sessions in Journify?

Not inside Journify itself. Online appointments carry your Zoom, Teams or Meet link, and the note asks where the client is at the start of each online session, so you know where to send help in an emergency.
