Sports therapy, booked and paid

Journify gives sports therapists and sports massage therapists online booking with deposits, a contraindication check at every visit, quick treatment notes on a body chart, and bundles, memberships and gift vouchers without a separate shop.

No statutory regulator. The CNHC runs a voluntary register for sports therapy and sports massage, accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. Professional bodies include the Society of Sports Therapists, the SMA and ISRM.

The sports therapy pack follows within six months of launch, and until then you can start on the physiotherapy pack plus the General pack and we'll move you across when it ships.

What it does for sports therapists and sports massage therapists

Take a deposit, lose fewer slots

Most of your work is self-pay, and insurers generally don't fund sports massage, so a missed appointment is money you don't get back. Clients book online and you can ask new ones for a deposit through your own Stripe account. If they cancel late or don't turn up, the deposit goes towards your cancellation fee.

  • Deposits as a fixed amount or a percentage, for new clients or everyone
  • Full prepayment, if you'd rather
  • Email reminders before every appointment

Contraindications checked every visit

The consultation screens in three groups: total (don't treat, such as suspected DVT or fever), local (avoid the area, such as varicose veins or an injury under 72 hours old) and medical clearance needed (such as recent surgery or pregnancy). After that, every visit asks "Any changes in your health since your last visit?" and the note won't finalise until it's answered.

  • A GP clearance request letter, ready to send
  • A red-flag screen with onward referral in the sports injury assessment
  • Parental consent for junior athletes, and your DBS expiry date tracked

Bundles, memberships and vouchers

Plenty of regulars buy in blocks or pay monthly. The pack comes with a "5 for the price of 4" bundle, a monthly massage membership and gift voucher designs, all ready to edit. Oils, tape and rollers go through retail sales.

  • Block contracts invoiced to the club, not the athlete
  • Gift vouchers for birthdays and Christmas, without a separate shop
  • Not VAT-registered by default, so no VAT appears unless you say you're registered

Switched on when you choose sports therapy and massage

Pick your profession when you join and these are ready from your first sign in. Everything can be edited.

  • Consultation template with a three-group contraindication screen
  • A health recheck at every visit that has to be answered before the note is finalised
  • Treatment note with a treated-areas body chart, techniques, pressure, feedback and aftercare
  • Sports injury assessment with ROM, special tests, hop tests, Y-balance and a red-flag screen
  • Return-to-play checklist, club injury report and GP clearance letter
  • Junior athlete parental consent form and aftercare handouts
  • Services at 30, 45, 60 and 90 minutes, a 15 minute event massage and a 60 minute injury assessment
  • Bundles, memberships, gift vouchers and retail, switched on from day one

Measures and assessments

  • Built in: NPRS and PSFS
  • ROM tables and return-to-play criteria
  • Hop tests and Y-balance in the sports injury assessment
  • The full outcome measures engine is there if you want it, one click to switch on

Who pays, and how it's billed

Self-pay clients and athletes, sports clubs on block contracts, and corporate and event work. Insurers generally don't fund sports massage. Treatment is standard-rated if you're VAT-registered, but most practitioners are under the threshold, so Journify starts you as not VAT-registered.

Questions from sports therapists and sports massage therapists

I'm not VAT-registered. Will Journify add VAT?

No. You start as not VAT-registered. If you tick that you are, setup warns you that treatment will be standard-rated and shows the effect on a sample invoice. That's because the CNHC and other voluntary registers aren't statutory, so HMRC doesn't treat sports therapy as exempt.

What does it cost if I work on my own?

Prices are still being finalised, so they're TBC for now. Solo is for one practitioner. Practice is priced per practitioner and adds group classes, and Clinic is for larger teams. Admin staff are free on all of them.

Can I join at launch?

Yes. Until the sports therapy pack ships, within six months of launch, you'd start on the physiotherapy pack plus the General pack. Bundles, memberships and vouchers can be switched on there, and VAT follows your own registration, not the pack, so a physio default won't make your treatment exempt.
